Autumn Girl

Klaus Koenig Jazz Live Trio

Autumn Girl is Klaus Koenig’s sixth album with his ‘Jazz Live Trio’. Klaus is a humorist, who seems to complain in the liner notes about the difficulty of composition and improvisation, laments about his struggles with harmonies. And yet, he delivers a moving and lyrical tour de force, borrowing as he states, ‘the practical procedure’ from Felix Mendelsohn’s Song’s Without Words. There are numerous emotional twists and turns, the ballads have splendid improvisations. There are pure gems here, Autumn Girl, dedicated to his wife; has such delicacy that even the touch of Andi Wettstein’s cymbals hug you; the playful yet thought provoking Song For A Child that bassist Patrick Sommer’s virtuosity is on display; and the inspiring IRACI, a solo piano composition that closes out this feast. Truly, for all his complaining and lamenting, he seems to have hit on a formula that works. From the tender title track to the playful Song For A Child and the inspiring ERACI, Koenig delivers a moving journey of jazz and emotional depth.
